Universal Principals That Guide Business Growth

Universal principals are those "self-evident" truths that have guided brilliant minds and withstood the test of time.

Today, however, most of us forget to apply them consistently. As a reminder, here are a few Universal Principals based on genius thinking past and present that Baby Boomer Business Owners can use to inspire consistent accomplishment.

Today, I have reflected on my own thinking along with the best genius thinking both past and present and wove them into 10 Universal Principals for both professional and personal growth.

The 10 Universal Principals

1. "Thoughts become things, so think the good ones."

Mike Dooley of Totally Unique Thoughts (tut.com) does a very nice job reminding us that what we think about every moment brings about the experiences we have in life.

2. There is prosperity in action.

T. Harv Eker, in his book Secrets of a Millionaire Mind explains this principal by telling us "Thoughts lead to feelings, Feelings lead to actions. Actions lead to results."

3. Strive to be remarkable.

In his must read book, Purple Cow, agent of change Seth Godin tells us, "Something remarkable is worth talking about. Worth noticing. Exceptional, new. It's a Purple Cow. Boring stuff is invisible. It's a brown cow."

4. Focus on creating value for others and your success level will soar.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you," (Luke 6:31) -- is the most fundamental of all Universal Principals. Today, brilliant minds such as marketing wizard Jay Abraham use this thought to remind us to, "Always put your client's needs ahead of your own. Think of the well being of others and focus on YOU instead of ME."

5. "You must get your living by loving." Henry David Thoreau.

While few of us will ever live on Walden Pond, making a living by doing what you love and are passionate about is the most direct way to create a life of balance, satisfaction and abundance.

6. Don't be a chicken crossing the road.

Creative thinker, Joey Reiman, in his book Thinking for a Living reminds us ? "Imagine a chicken in great haste to get to the other side of the road. Between him and his goal are a million moments of life he could enjoy. However, all that is on his mind is the ludicrous pecking order of success. From womb to tomb, all he wants is to get to the other side."

7. Don't hit the ball, swing the club.

I've found golf to be a maddening game. The harder you try to hit the ball, the worse the result. However, when you visualize the result you're after and just casually swing the club the ball flies a mile. Same holds true for achievement in life. The harder you try, the harder it gets. Learn to let go of struggle and just "swing the club."

8. Make it a point to connect and contribute regularly.

We are often sucked into the vacuum of our business life. Be sure to take time to connect and contribute to benefit another person. Do this formally, as in networking and informally as in coffee with a client, prospect or acquaintance. It is the quickest way I know to increase your results both professionally and personally.

9. Always be receptive to learning more.

New ideas are the life blood of living in creative fulfillment. Take in new ideas regularly and act on them. Your abilities will expand and your passion for everything you do will increase proportionately.

10. "Express a lively and sincere gratitude for all the blessings bestowed upon you in your life." Wallace Wattles

Wallace Wattles, in The Science of Getting Rich, reminds us to always express gratitude for both the little and BIG things in our life. Regularly expressing gratitude will attract more of the same.

How to Add Universal Principals into Your Business Life

1. Monitor your thoughts. If a negative thought creep in, STOP, reframe the thought into a positive expression and move on with new vitality.

2. Take action today that leads to the results you are seeking tomorrow. Focus on your long term goal, make a decision to accomplish it and then take specific action everyday to reach it.

3. Understand what is unique and remarkable about your business and life. Then go out and share that distinctiveness with everyone possible.

4. Create value instead of products or services. Understand the impact and assistance you offer other people. Then help your clients and prospects reach their goals by utilizing your unique knowledge and perspective. Don't rest until they do!

5. Identify what you LOVE about your business and life. Then exploit the areas you enjoy and eliminate cumbersome and unfulfilling aspects that hold you down.

6. See the big picture. Don't be so focused on one outcome that you miss the other important moments of your life.

7. Don't try. Make a decision to do or not. Act based on passion instead of trying hard to make something occur. You will be swimming with the current instead of against it and your life will begin to flow.

8. Network, Mastermind and connect with other people for the purpose of fully understanding their business and life. Do this regularly and watch how much easier attracting your ideal client becomes.

9. Learn something new every week. New ideas, acted on, bring about new accomplishments. If you are stuck, it means you do not have enough information to move forward. Focus on just one challenge, research to find an answer and then implement the solution you find.

10. Express gratitude for your life everyday. Everyday, you will be attracting more of the same both personally and professionally.
